Signing the Contract
Terms and Conditions-
All agreements and verbal promises concerning the foundation repairs should be put in writing to protect you and the contractor. If you intended to do some of the work yourself, or to hire other contractors, such terms should be written into the contract. The written contract should also include:
- A complete description of the work to be done, including the number of foundation supports, the type of foundation supports, additional services such as pressure grouting or mudjacking, or engineer's reports, plumbing tests and permits
- The total cost
- A payment schedule
- The warranty
- A statement of who is responsible for removing debris and cleaning the site
- The contractor's full name, address, phone number, and fax number
Never sign a blank contract. Read the entire document carefully and ask all questions before signing. Upon signing, always keep a copy of the signed contract for your records. On any foundation work, you should expect to make a down payment equal to approximately half of the contract price. The balance is normally due upon completion of the work. Never pay the full amount in advance.
